The Southlake Project

The Southlake Project was a dream project. It started with a late night text from the homeowner introducing herself and asking for help with her new home. I came onto the project as the drywall was going up, which gave me a blank canvas from the onset. Everything had to be selected, including nearly every piece of furniture. The only pieces she was bringing with her into the new residence were four Ralph Lauren chairs she had recently purchased during a wine tasting trip to Napa. Those chairs inspired the palate of the home. The client conveyed that she wanted the house to feel warm and homey. She also advised me that she loves rich wood tones, coupled with neutral colors in linen and other textured fabrics. She wanted a black kitchen island and wanted her sports bar to resemble the one she saw on a hunting trip in Africa. In fact, she wanted the vibe of the house to be reminiscent of that once in a lifetime experience. Ultimately, what she dreamed of was a beautiful retreat; a place to relax and sip a glass of wine from her collection. During a few initial shopping trips, I realized that she was drawn to furnishings with clean, sleek lines and modern touches, as well as vintage pieces. She gravitated to modern abstract art, eclectic lighting fixtures and global treasures. Our finished product turned out to be a very beautiful curated look of both the traditional and transitional. It’s minimalistic, yet filled with stunning detail, so much so that the ecstatic homeowner is often heard saying “I can’t believe I live here!” That makes me a very happy and fulfilled designer.
